Rail Braces for Model Railroad Turnouts

Rail braces are an essential turnout detail that secure the stock rails while adding the distinctive appearance of prototype railroad track. Their prominent location makes them one of the most noticeable details on a completed turnout.

Modeled after full-size railroad practice, Oak Hill Model Railroad Track Supply rail braces are precision designed for HO scale with crisp, highly detailed castings that enhance both the appearance and realism of your trackwork. They are ideal for new turnout construction, upgrading commercial turnouts, or restoring existing hand-laid track.

Designed to complement Oak Hill's Roadmaster Series components, these rail braces provide the finishing touch that transforms ordinary track into museum-quality model railroad track.

Available Options

  • Rail Sizes: Code 70/83
  • Package Quantities: 12, 24, 48, or 96 rail braces

Complete Your Turnout

Looking for all the prototype details in one package?

Our Roadmaster Series Turnout Detail Kits combine many of our most popular turnout detail components into convenient kits designed for specific turnout sizes. They are an easy way to add realistic, prototype-inspired detail to both hand-laid and commercial turnouts.

Need additional parts? Individual Heel Blocks, 4-Hole Joint Bars, 6-Hole Joint Bars, Tie Plates, and other Roadmaster Detail Series components are also available separately.

Installation

Installing Roadmaster Series Rail Braces is quick and straightforward.

  1. Install the tie plates onto the turnout ties.
  2. The tie plates with the locating holes indicate exactly where each rail brace is installed.
  3. Glue one rail brace onto each marked tie plate.
  4. Paint and weather to match your track for a prototype appearance.

(See the installation photos below.)

Based on the Prototype

This prototype turnout was photographed by Jeff Otto in central Illinois. It shows the same details reproduced in the Roadmaster Series, including tie plates, rail braces, tie rods, six-hole rail joiners (fish plates), heel blocks, and the turnout frog.

All Roadmaster Series detail components are designed directly from prototype railroad drawings and field reference photographs to provide accurate, scale detail for serious model railroaders.
